A lot of effort all around, really.
What she doesn’t know is that St Denis is secretly a superhero, and this is his ingenious disguise!
The mediocre adventures of Captain Mundane!
Was he specifically working to be as unappealing as possible as well? I get this weird feeling that, in an outside situation where they didn’t have societal pressures on them, they might get along pretty well?
I have very good friends “on the spectrum” who are that socially dense, but through the efforts of others of us they can puzzle out where others are coming from and discover adequate responses.

The same energy behind a teenager being told to do the dishes and doing them poorly.
“Whatever! I said I was interested but now that I have been rejected I don’t even care. Freaking dweeb!!!1!”
And now, he has two drinks! Net positive!
It’s so nice to see they have found common ground so quick!
